DMA codes
Now you can generate sales statistics by Nielsen DMA® codes!
We are authorized licensees of Nielsen Media Research's DMA®
codes and have the Nielsen Designated Market Areas. It can be used
by media companies and anyone needing a way to define market areas
for every continental U.S. county (plus Hawaii and parts of Alaska).
This DMA® code product is a unique product because
of the following:
- Better Format: We update our data
throughout the year! Instead of one large file with
lots of duplicate information, we have created 3 smaller, normalized
files without duplication of DMA® or County names.
This format is ideal for programmers to load into a database.
- Cleaner Names: We have included
our custom, cleaned-up DMA® and County names, along
with Nielsen's abbreviated names. The abbreviated names often
are difficult to understand and all upper-case. Our names are
designed for improved reporting and eliminates the guesswork of
what some of the areas cover. For instance, one county in Minnesota
is abbreviated: BL ERTH-NCL-S. Our name is: Blue Earth-Nicollet
South. Blue Earth and Nicollet are names of counties in Minnesota
and some counties are split by Nielsen into areas such as: North,
South, East, West and Central.
- More Accurate: DMAs®
are based primarily on counties and our U.S. ZIP Code data products
have counties which are more accurate than what the U.S. Postal
Service and others provide in their data. When necessary, we will
override these with the real primary
county.
- We update our data throughout the year:
To keep you current with all ZIP Code changes. Nielsen assigns
DMA® Codes in the fall of each year (at the beginning
of the new television season). There are many ZIP Code changes
that happen throughout the year and we will keep our data current
with these changes so your statistics will always be accurate.
